Ambulance

Where’s the ambulance?
the medic?
the nurse?
Can’t you see
I’m f*cking dying here
Are you blind?
I need an ambulance
A doctor
A nurse
What the f*ck is he doing here?
Who let him in?
Where’s my Mother?
Mother
Mother
I want my mother
I could smell his rancid breath
As he leant over and mumbled
the Ritus Continuus
What the f*ck is he doing here?
Who let him in?
I need an ambulance
I need a dr
Not a priest
Definitely not a priest
I could hear his rosary beads rattling
in his shaking hands
as he whispered
“Our lord the redeemer”
into my ear
Get him the f*ck away from me
Get him out of here
I can’t breathe
I can’t breathe
What’s he doing here?
I need a dr
not a shaman
I need an ambulance
Not a sermon
What’s he doing here?
I don’t need a priest
I don’t need prayers
I don’t need saved
I don’t need blessed
I need a medic
I need an ambulance
I’m dying for f*cks sake
I can’t breathe
I can’t breathe
I want my mother
Mother
Mother
Mother……..
Where’s the ambulance?
Where’s the medic?
Where’s the nurse?
Where’s my mother?
I need my mother
Mother
Mother
Mother

Mother………

This poem is so powerful, both as a description and as a metaphor.

Mother: a word that carries such depth, such emotion, such strength, and yet so many intimate and secret meanings for each of us. In the panic before death, you call for the doctor and the nurse to save you; do you call for your mother to hold your hand while you continue on your journey?

This Ambulance poem serves amply as a companion to my poem, “The Maternal Bond of Nature” depicting the critical enduring role of mother as giver of Faith, Hope and Love throughout life and in death. So powerful!

I guess we are in the same category regarding writing and publishing. I am trying to get my memoir published sooner. Fine work you have here. Saving soul and saving body.
