Picnic with the taliban

Paul Marauder 1962 (Belfast)

I reassembled myself with what
had remained
I jettisoned the broken parts and
the briefs that were stained
I cleared out the attic of all the
clutter & clatter
The dusty dirty books and stuff
that don't matter

I burned all my bridges from
Romney to Bromley
I left a girl crying at every port
from Shanghai to Calais
I've took every drug from Prozac
to  Xanax
then flushed all my dreams down
a lavatory vortex

Now I'm writing you a letter about
how things are getting better
Now that l've swapped absinthe
for temperance and mantra for
viagra

Today I walk upon the toxic sands
in the deserts of Afghanistan
Helping the Pashtun Taliban pour
liquor down the Arghistan

Soon I'll return home on my Palomino
horse Jet
l'll scoop you up in my buddy saddle
and we'll ride off into the sunset
