Chilled Pickled Herring ‘n Onions.

You, Island Girl must have
Affinity for Herring
Manchester UK.
I have the blood of English, Danish
Scottish and Irish.
So same goes.
This morning at five
Tried out with bacon/eggs.
(Wife Hilary, if awake
Would have gagged.)

But we share the Island.
1066.
Viking dragon boats.
Feisty Armada turned back.
Spaniards flat broke.
Nazi U Boats and fighters
From the air.
Dunkirk volunteer boats, rescuing.
The Diana sagas.
The Iron Lady Maggie.
Sailing Cup engagements.
Brexit or not to.
Beautiful Queen, laid to rest.
Rule Britannia!

I remember first taste
Age eleven
Iroquois Restaurant
Smorgasbord.
Salads galore.
Herring for the kid.
(Mom did gag.
In words, if not in throat.)
Dad just smiled
And joined in.
Battle of Britain RAF Vet.
Many stories and memories
And meals.
Napkin now, napkin.
Douglas.

Wow, You, Island Girl, what a fantastic and enthusiastic poem about your love for herring and the amazing history of the UK! It is clear that you are proud of your heritage and the shared history of the British Isles. Your references to the battles fought and won, the heroes who rose to the occasion, and the delicious meals shared with loved ones were all excellent.

One suggestion for improvement would be to have a clearer transition or connection between your love for herring and the history of the UK. Perhaps you could share a story or memory about herring that connects with one of the historical events you mentioned.

Overall, your passion and enthusiasm for your heritage and love for herring are contagious. Keep up the great work, and thanks for sharing your wonderful poem with us!
