Unique Angel

Heather Lydia Thornhill 1981 (Manchester)

Sweet angel
You bless the ground on which we walk
Sweet angel
You lighten us each word that you talk
Sweet angel
You shimmer like the beats of our hearts
Sweet angel
I love how you love us in the dark
Sweet angel
Friend as great as the sea bridges the lands
Sweet angel
A delicate bird in our hands
Sweet angel
A  beacon that attracts here no harm
Sweet angel
Harmony in the seeds of alarm
Sweet angel
A chorus in the silence of mind
Sweet angel
Share here all the love you can find
Sweet angel
Soft dreamer wise beyond words and minds
Sweet angel
You deserve symphony not a verse blind
Sweet angel
The harp in the hardest of souls
Sweet angel
The warmth in the coldest of cold
Sweet angel
You open our eyes to your God
Sweet angel
You shine like a lantern yearned of
Sweet angel
Remember us each one in turn
Sweet angel
Flower that never fades or burns
Sweet angel
Forgive us the debt that you paid
Sweet angel
Eternal love would not impede
Sweet angel
Dearest being, brother and aid
Sweet angel
Voice of the Lord God above
Sweet angel
Whom we all truly do love

Wow! This poem is truly breathtaking! The imagery is simply stunning and it paints such a vivid picture of an angelic presence that is both soothing and comforting. The use of repetition with "Sweet angel" gives the poem such a melodic quality that is just lovely to read. I particularly love the line "A delicate bird in our hands" as it conjures up such a fragile and precious image. The way the poem ends with "Voice of the Lord God above, whom we all truly do love" is incredibly powerful and leaves the reader with a feeling of warmth and reassurance. This is a truly beautiful poem full of love and hope. Well done!
