Discipline

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

Why do you hate that child of yours so?
He talks back and defies you and you just let him go.
Don’t you know that there’s danger for all the defiant?
At four or fourteen he is still so reliant.
He’s relying on you to show him the Father!
But it’s obvious to those seeing you don’t even bother.

He disciplines all of those that he loves,
With His truth and His justice from heaven above.
Why can’t you see your sweet talk leads to disaster?
It’s love and obedience the Father is after!
He doesn’t use flattery or teach self reliance,
He gives them the Truth and punishes their defiance!
