The cost of love

Free verse
I lost my heart
because I was reckless
I lost my faith
because I was fickle
I lost my house
because I was stupid
I lost my job
because I lost all confidence in myself
I lost the one constant
that I believed in
that firm foundation of my marital house
turned out to be built on slippery sand
And more so the one constant that was you
Turned out to be a lie, a fabrication, a dupe
of your younger self that I allowed myself to believe in
But boy, let me tell you
This is the last time
anyone fucks up my head, my heart, my life
I am cutting this marital umbilical cord
that binds us
I am denying you air
I am suffocating you
So that you do not exist to me anymore
I divorce thee
I divorce thee
I despise thee!

About this poem

This is another poem I wrote in 1999 when I was undergoing the breakup of my marriage. It captures my angst at what was happening to me.

Kaci Tami

I am an aspiring writer, poet, teller of tales that is me. I have always seen things in a different light and from my perspective, it gives you an insight into what makes me tick as a human being. My life is always hectic and the most important thing I have learnt is that there are three things that one should value in life (a) Your loved ones (b)Your health (c) The memories you create with people. In the end, we all leave this world alone, so spend time creating memories and meaningful relationships with individuals and society at large. My poems reflect my perspective on the world at large both real and imagined. I am in the process of collating an anthology of poems so I can share my likes, dislikes and life with others.
