My birthday

When the cyclone hit my house
I had been floating asleep
Inside my mother’s womb
Until I as rudely awakened
By the raging storm and
My mother laboured to bring me
Forth into an uneasy world
Two months prematurely
Luckily, My father, a doctor,
Tended to her needs and
Despite the angry Earth tearing
Our world apart delivered me safely

The violent winds tore the roof apart
Sweeping it way for miles around
Decapitated the tall coconut palms
And the heavily laden mango trees
That once lined the driveway to our house
Its fruit tumbled onto our roof
Like large hail stones
Our speedboat it lifted and flung downhill
Narrowly missing our neighbours car
Our cat shed her fur in fright
And it was in this quagmire night
That I made my entrance into the world!

About this poem

This recalls a time when birth that was spoilt by a major cyclone that hit Fiji. It destroyed part of our house and upended our boat and we found it in a neighbours yard. Fortunately my father saves the day.

Kaci Tami

I am an aspiring writer, poet, teller of tales that is me. I have always seen things in a different light and from my perspective, it gives you an insight into what makes me tick as a human being. My life is always hectic and the most important thing I have learnt is that there are three things that one should value in life (a) Your loved ones (b)Your health (c) The memories you create with people. In the end, we all leave this world alone, so spend time creating memories and meaningful relationships with individuals and society at large. My poems reflect my perspective on the world at large both real and imagined. I am in the process of collating an anthology of poems so I can share my likes, dislikes and life with others. Thank you for reading my poems more…
