Two Strange Bedfellows
Karl Constantine FOLKES 1935 (Portland)
About this poem
Conscious and Unconscious Behavior: The Courtship of Eros and Psyche. Every aspect of human social interaction and behavior is conducted and achieved with both conscious and unconscious design. Swiss psychiatrist, Carl Gustav Jung, in “Visions: Notes of the Seminar Given in 1930-1934, Vol. 1 (11 February 1931), p. 206,”summarizes it this way: “When you are concerned with a relationship to another human being, you care in connection with two things really, with the conscious obvious person and the unconscious person at the same time. When you analyze any kind of relationship you find a conscious and an unconscious part, which are quite unlike each other.” The binary pair of opposites is a constant dynamic energy in all human relationships. more »
