The Mirror

Laura Dotson 1964 (Pittsburgh, Pa)

I am watching someone
who looks very sad
some broken heart
somebody once had

I picture her happy
a short time ago
but the clouds she was floating on
have descended below

She smiles sometimes
but not really inside
all of her tears
she needs to hide

I want to tell her to not be afraid
that mistakes in her past
some people have made

She picks up her bag
and walks to the door
she turns around to me
my words she ignores

Smiling, as she walks away
"Tomorrow," she hums, "is another day."
