Life Worth Living

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

What is it that makes life worth living?
With it had to behold as precious as gold?
Shouldn't it be the cost it takes to invest,
Interest given in obtaining their happiness?

'Uh...I...uh...guess.
Yes. Yes. That is correct.'

And not the benefit of someone else.
Sitting around unexpecting a price paid.
At no expense at all to them.
Yet credited to receive,
Dividends given to have others believe...
They earned with patience, sacrifice.
And toiled sweat equity?
Although...
Knew nothing about that.
Until prompted to be reminded of it.

'I...uh...
Yes. Yes.
You are correct.
So...
What should I say,
If I am asked about how I achieved...
My success to receive?'

Tell them what you told me.

'What was that?
I have forgotten.'

'Remember?
You suffered through blood, sweat and tears.
And for years you endured,
Anguish, torment.
With removing unrelenting obstacles to face,
Challenges on your path to make disappear.'

'Oh yeah. That's right.
Now...
Is it possible you can write that down.
And rehearse with me repeatedly.
Until every detail of my pain is remembered?'

But...
Aren't your experiences to have gained,
Made your life worth living to value?

'Sure.
But I had no idea,
Going through all that...
Would ultimately make me happy.
I thought it was much easier than that to do.'

Well...
Lieing is much easier to value.
Than remembering the doing of it.
Isn't it?

'What are you trying to imply?
That I am a liar?'

No. Of course not.
However...
Your ability to embellish.
And exaggerate the facts.
YOUR FACTS.
Is something done,
I have never heard twisted to witness before.

'Thank you.
I thought you were accusing me,
Of not believing in myself or abilities.'

Accusing you?
For living your life,
To value the worth living to delude?
Hey...
Some row their own boats.
While others float along for the ride.

'And...
What is that suppose to mean?'

Some float on surfaces looking up.
Some row slow then rest to go once more.
And some stay on the shore of safety.
Waving their dreams to wish goodbye.
Satisfied.
To at least make someone else's effort,
Their endeavor qualified to deny themselves...
Opportunities to let drift away.
But say what they could have done.
Yet...
Made no attempt to try.

'And you?
Where is your boat?'

Anchored.
Where it has been to use again!
For other dreams to follow to make true.
That's why it is important I keep,
Physically and mentally prepared.

'You say some crazy stuff you know that?'

So I am told by those who live to delude.

I have noticed with a lot of recent poets, they write the worse of life and drag it on !There is much beauty in the world and good things happening !
