Integrity

Integrity

If I were asked to say one thing
That tells you who I am,
I’d say it wasn’t something simple
When it comes to a woman or a man.

I would hope that those who know of me
Would agree with what I’d say.
That what I hope describes myself
Is the word “Integrity”.

I believe in honor
I believe in love.
Isn’t that what makes us special?
In the eyes of God above?

I think that showing someone
Who we are that’s deep inside,
Are more than simple spoken words
That you need when you decide.

I hope I live the words I say
Showing I speak right from my heart
That is how I live my life
And how I will depart.

And if you really know me,
You know exactly what I mean.
Trust is hard to find these days
And it is rarely seen.

Integrity has a meaning
That is rich and says so much.
It means I am a person,
That you can always trust.

If I say you are my friend,
There’s nothing I won’t do.
To be with you no matter what.
And will always stand by you.

If I were asked to give a word
What expresses me as a whole?
I hope the word “Integrity”
Describes my heart and soul.

About this poem

I often find myself thinking of my age, my time left on Earth, and my footprint that I leave when I am gone. So the written word is the one thing that will remain here long after I cross over.
