My Trauma

Makaylla Liggett 1994 (Sandpoint, ID)

The lines, they stay
The roles, unchanged
Screaming, in fear
The demon is here

The act, committed
The trauma, I’ve admitted
The damage is done
The demon has won

The rape is done
The post trauma is yet to come
My story, untold
The world needs to know

The battle is constant
The aftermath, unwanted
The day will come
The demon, I confront

Your grasp, released
I remain out of reach
Demon, look at me
I’m finally free

The trauma, it stays
I’ve overcome the pain
You won’t haunt me
The ghost I no longer see

Watching, you will
But I evade you still
When we again will meet
But not as the niece you’ll greet

The victim you’ve made of me
The witness I’ve become to be
The monster of my dreams
You gave me low self esteem

I’ll look at you and say
I still remember that day
Will you still see me the same?
The niece you once betrayed
