Limited Awareness

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

Excuse me.
Do you mind if I ask you a question?

'No, I don't mind.
Sure.
Ask.
What is your question?'

Since it is Veterans Day.
And many are celebrating it,
As a national holiday.
Have you had any military experience?
Done to actively enlist.
Or become drafted to serve,
A patriotic duty.
To your country to claim a deserving,
Of your entitlements given?

'Hmmm...
No...I...can't say I have.
Why do you ask?'

So...
Will you admit to say,
Your awareness of reality is confined...
And more limited,
To a selfishness and greed?
Perceived to be,
One of many entitlements...
You expect fed to get and receive?
Hypothetically speaking, of course.

'Of course.
I understand.'

And,
Will you also agree...
Your thought process and approach to those,
Of ethic diversity.
Shows a consciousness that is absent,
Of what their contributions...
To this country actually has been?

Oh, hold up.
Whoa.
How can you assess me like that?
We've never met.
You don't know me.

'To that this is true.
But neither have I met one bird or bee.
Personally.
To see and observe what they do.
And what they are.
People too,
Fit in that category.'

Hmmm...
To 'THAT' I agree this to be true too!
Well...
All I can say,
Is thank you for your service.

'No problem.
Uh...excuse me?
Before you go.
Which service are you referring to?'
