OUT IN THE HAUNTED NIGHT

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

Out in the haunted night
Leviathans are lumbering,
While safely locked indoors
Innocents are slumbering.

Slithering snake-like fiends
Crawl around your bedroom floor,
While outside of your house
Evil beings knock at your door.

Sinister creatures lurking
Outside your darkened home,
Through the streets and alleys
Loathsome behemoths roam.

Out in the haunted night
Malevolent beings do stare,
As the guileless walk outside
Unknowing what's lurking there.

Omnivores and carnivores
Both hunting after human prey,
Lurking in the shadows
Beneath an evil moon's rays.

Villainous forms are stirring
Waiting till the witching hour,
Tiny things all spines and teeth
Above them colossuses tower.

Hidden safely locked indoors
The wise refuse to go outside,
Knowing, if the stalkers get them
It will be the night they died.
