The Monster Retsnom

The Dragon sleeps with gold
surrounding his walls and more.
Alone with treasures far greater
than any man has seen before.

The King, sitting on his throne,
with riches and peasants poor.
A touch of God placed at his feet
and yet his life remains a bore.

    Both have powers granted
where pity has yet to bare,
    Fortune and Fate collided
with a battle between the pair.

Dragons and Kings, the same.
Both be forgotten some day.
But their selfishness will remain
where the forgotten bodies lay.

About this poem

I wrote this after reading a story about an epic battle between a king & a dragon that lasted generations, which ended up being lost in history and meant nothing in the end.
