Haunted Love

Deana Sanders 1990 (Indio)

For who am I without being who I was, For what is won't always be, and what can be, doesn't mean it will be. Envy is a disease, a factor of malice and control, and if not contained, it will take it's toll. Jealousy is a green monster, Most choose to hold, But Unconditional love, Is a story untold. A story most choose to hide, But if you sit with me for awhile, I'll let you inside, And share it with a smile. For what is Unconditional, That I wouldn't know, It's something I've yet to encounter, But have given all around, And gotten back nothing but cruelty and slander. For I have yet to even encounter actual love, Other than for a brief moment when I was young, A moment I always held close like a white dove, pirched gently in my hands, But then it flew away so gently, Like an invisible man. For once it was there, Then gone in a flash, I waited and waited, But I knew it wasn't going to last. I released that love, or so I thought, until it crept up on me, It upset me that I even forgot. I wasn't ready for it to sneak back in, For once I just wanted it to finally end, And so it did atlast, But it was like a dark nightmaric past. A haunting I never wanted exposed, For when it found me, I felt entirely too exposed, and once again just wanted to let go. A part of me always held a little hope, But then again we all do from time to time, Doesn't mean it's what we expect, Given there's always a fine line. So once more I will let it go, and let it slip into the shadows, To be a ghost, I hold close, Like most, Love shattered!!
