SWEET ARE THE USES OF ADVERSITY
After a hard day’s work
when one is rather exhausted
comes the rejoicing when rested.
The sense of reward then is exhilarating more
than any enjoyment without the toil and sweating before.
Hard work and determination make it a success,
and make your dreams come true,
dreams don’t come with magic alas
though one would wish them to.
It’s always better to travel in expectation
than to arrive at your destination
in utter exasperation.
Life is like that, one needs to live with hope
because not to strive means you have a tainted trope.
In the Bible it says the labourer toils in vain if he builds on his own
but not when
the Lord wishes him to.
Having faith even without belief
can get you through too.
An old proverb says ‘You reap what you sow’.
Nothing can be truer than this though
because just as little drops of water make an ocean
so do tiny steps of efforts build up to success in succession.
Another proverb says ‘Sweet are the uses of Adversity’
You may wonder and ask what does it mean in reality?
What it implies is that poverty and pain
need not be a hindrance to a gain,
adversity can be a catalyst so one toils harder
to make one’s life more meaningful and loftier.
We know that all that glitters is not gold.
We should also remember that there may be silver linings in the cloudy cold.
Thus don’t be bowled over by what shines
nor dampened by the grey skies,
for there may be salvage even when it looks bleak and hope apparently dies.
Sweet indeed are the uses of adversity,
hard times can goad one to veer away from calamity.
‘Failures are the pillars of success’.
This we have known for ever.
So even if we fall and falter,
let’s not stop and despair,
let’s walk far and away,
miles and miles with a sway
to make it a success day by day
in each and every way, anyway.
Sweet indeed are the uses of adversity
in every which way.
