Act

Knees deep in your waters
Vile, vicious and prudent
Oh, how was I so stupid?
Love is so toxic but, when it’s happening
There’s no judgement

Hands weak on your shoulders
Crimson edges and wire
How can you gaslight me,
I thought we were fine?

Ruby’s dance on black veils
Sun is stressed on the moons appeal
Tailor me with real love
Not the idea of what you want

There’s no rush
Countless acts are made for survival
So, don’t shadow me in darkness
Don’t put on a role
And call yourself an actor
Because, I can be an actress
And my monologue will haunt you
Just love me & I’ll love you
Because love buries itself in ways and there’s no acting.

Lips sore, jaws locked
You think you’re the only one that thinks you’re worthy
You think you’re the only one that thinks you’re
crazy
Until you meet someone who’s had enough
How can you claim I’m so crazy, so deranged ?
Just use my heart and my time
But, if I was crazy I would’ve made your heart stop

Roses on the sheets , lava on the floor
Pastel walls , outlined bodies on the hardwood
Looks like a crime scene
Whips on my back , claws on my face
Blood under your nails , scabs on my wrist
Looks like you hate me , let me leave

Ruby’s dance on black veils
Sun is stressed on the moons appeal
Tailor me in real love
Not the idea of your imagination

You have the crowd fooled
Everybody’s raising to their feet
Throwing roses on the stage
But, they have no idea what they are praising
Don’t shadow me in the darkness
Don’t put on a role
And call yourself an actor
Because , I can be an actress
And my monologue will move you
Just treat me right & I won’t leave
Because, love isn’t a metaphor it’s a feeling it’s not acting.

Tailor me , don’t hurt me
Love me , don’t use me
Hold me , don’t lie to me
Listen to me , don’t shut me down
Because, there’s somebody who’d idolize me

Save me, don’t kill me
Ride with me, don’t leave me
Rise with me, don’t fail me
Cuddle me, don’t push me
Because, there’s somebody who’d cherish me

Knees deep in your waters
I’m tired of drowning
I gave  you pieces of me
That many haven’t seen
Oh, how was I so blind?

Hands weak on your shoulders
There was times I should’ve pulled that trigger
But, I didn’t
I kept you alive and around
While you acted out

Love isn’t a metaphor : it’s a feeling it’s not an act.
Love isn’t a game : it’s a privilege it’s not a right.
Love isn’t a shame: it’s a blessing it’s not a sin.
So don’t act like you love me
Love me instead.

About this poem

This poems is a personal experience with a guy I dated. He was abusive in many ways. He could see that I was not happy but, used me. Until,I realized my worth and moved forth in life with being more protective of my heart.
