The rest appears unending
in cemeteries far and near
may a master know what’s pending

for those thought to be transcending
below the walk is what I fear

it's what I'm clearly comprehending
when sleep is neither here nor there

repose, a momentary descending
it’s a fear of which I swear
the rest appears unending

that souls somehow will be ascending
receiving supremely rendered care

what is the point of this pretending
if we are destined for nowhere
