No Greener Grass

Someday upon a fuller banquet,
Together as one family let us dine.

All Godly virtue to you I assign,
Although in your eyes I will not shine.

When summer’s array of green meadows
And soft gales whisper, stars align,
We venture into the alpine.

I manufacture my glowing dream,
A cellar filled with vintage wine,
A life filled with all that is fine.
When, I wonder, will it be mine?

I surmise hardly better mine than Thine,
Caught up in a pursuit entirely benign.

Why must greener pastures beckon
When what lies at home seems fine?

Tomorrow we discover a world divine,
Where devilish enticements we decline.
