Like Magic

As I sit in anticipation for what comes next
I never doubt that the trick shall be good
As if a present received again and again
As if for the first time

Without anticipation I keep returning
In hopes of seeing more, or that big surprise
Trying to solve the mystery
My smile grows bigger each time

Don’t we wonder why it never grows old
Or what we’ve learned
Like a merry go round
With a child’s anticipation for another ride

Don’t you see how you resemble this?
That deck of cards that only the Magician knows
One card at a time. You are in his hands
And only he knows what waits on the other side

Uncovering all the truth
But only when the timings right
Or at least what we assume is right
Whether real or not

It makes us feel good about what we’ve seen
Or the next show of his hand
The laugh or the “Wow”
It’s a part of you now. You can’t take it back

Is it all an illusion? The Magician only knows
All I know is that it will bring me back
Always once more
And it's like magic, I will be happy again
