ALONE

The loneliness, it smothers me,
But the darkness seems welcoming.
The light dims more each day,
As the shadows call my name.

I cling to the solitude,
It becomes my home.
It keeps me protected,
But it keeps me alone.

The walls that shelter me,
Imprison me just the same.
Each brick molded by experience
each memory colored by pain.

Towering high above me,
This fortress I have created.
Every stone was cast at me
From the walls of a heart so jaded.
