Analysis of Bedtime Animal Poems for Children
When it gets dark, I climb the highest tree
To watch as far as I can see
High in the top I bounce my chest
I then bend some branches to make my nest
I like to do this every night
To sleep tight until the morning light
When it gets dark, I open my big round eyes
To look for the small and larger mice
Those I eat the whole night through
I swallow them whole, for I can’t chew
But the hairs and bones I don’t like at all
So I throw up a hairy ball
When it gets dark, it is getting cool
So I climb out of my muddy pool
I stretch my legs and jump around
To see what insects can be found
My mouth gets full with sticky slime
My tongue rolls out: its dinner time
When it gets dark, I leave my den
To see if there is some nice food again
I run around and eat and eat
Until I can hardly move my feet
Then I return all satisfied
And sleep the whole day until it is night
When it gets dark, I leave my tree
To fly around with my family
I need no light to find my food
With my radar I can see just as good
When my belly is full and I start to yawn
I go back to sleep, upside down
