Analysis of Chinese Crackers
At Mr Chows,
it was kooky, but fortunate
I cracked open a fortune cookie at 8.
It said "Duck!", but I had ordered the chicken?
So I lowered my head, re-read our order in dread.
What was that strange "thunk" as my pulse began to quicken?
I wasnt quite drunk, still, I didnt recall that sharp metal star
embedded into the head of my chair, at our table right beside the bar.
Canoodling with Carol, we laughed while we ate
our feast of noodles all served on an oriental plate.
We dug in voraciously into our dips
of chilli beef and green pepper strips
into our potato canape nests,
while the pianist played chopsticks,
but now I digress.
As advised, we changed our order
without much fuss
though we felt that the Peking duck
was staring at us.
We may have found ourselves in a plum jam,
should we have chosen more wisely the fragrant lamb?
So we dished out strips of cucumber and shallots,
but for the sake of the thin pancakes
that we retrieved from the ornate steam pot
So I boldly suggested another round of prawn toast
for Carol, myself and our restaurant host.
There was fried rice at a price,
the lemon chicken was diced
I was feeling the chilli glow
from the pieces of pork of Kung Po
Then my heart almost sung
at the dish that was so fu yung.
We began losing control
of the crispy spring rolls
as the seaweed just lay snug in its bed
during our hearty discourse
we selected our final course
as we grappled with our toffee apples
we set free all the lychees,
but the bananas just frittered away
so that meant it was time to pay
but as I settled our bill,
the ninja went in for the kill
he sent a second silver star onwards
and Carol said with a shout "Look out!"
Too late, and with a further pout
this meal has changed from "eat in" into "take out"!
