Analysis of Unrequited
Landon Maggard 2005 (Kentucky)
Heartbreak, damn, it's all I've ever known
Another lost love, another dream flown
Will I ever have someone to call my own?
Why oh why God would you make me still alone?
Why can't I find someone, to make me feel whole
To mend my broken heart, to save my anguished soul
I try to find the one, for years it’s my only goal
Every night for you I cry, oh damn this takes a toll
I try not to lose hope and I try to hold on
But sometimes it feels like love is just a con
And sometimes I wish these feelings could be gone
Just like all the nights in bed spent crying until dawn
I hold my broken heart, I remember shattered dreams
I’m just feeling so lost, feeling ripped at the seams
I really thought maybe you could be the one for me
But you never saw in us what I knew that we could be
I thought we met at a perfect time and place
And I thought that you might be my saving grace
I thought you might've been the one I could embrace
But instead, in my heart, you just left an empty space
Should I just give up? Should I just lose faith?
I'm growing so tired of this never ending wait
People lie and tell me that “love’s great”
Tell me why, then, I’ve never had a date
I give my all, but damn it’s never enough
And when I cry, I’m just told I should “be tough”
I can’t lie, this loveless life gets really rough
But little do they know, how mentally I’m crushed
Through all the sorrow, through all the pain
Only one thing has ever stayed the same
I wish that my misery would just go away
I cry, I wish, I pray, God, why does it still remain?
It's hard for me to keep holding on
When all my hopes and dreams are gone
But I'll pick up the pieces and move on
Until the day I find love, and this pain is gone.

About this poem
This is the first poem I've ever wrote; about unrequited love. While I wrote it with a certain person and recent incident in mind, I wanted to leave it somewhat open as to let it be relatable to others who've experienced it.
