Analysis of Did you know I was Gay?

Ty Ruth 1960 (Littlerock Arkansas)

Did you know I was Gay?

There's something that I need to say,
please open up your ears.

Or is it that your mind’s so small,
that’s why you never hear?

What we do behind closed doors
should never cross your mind.

Why don't we shine a light on you and
see what we can find.

I'm sure you'd say your private life
is none of our concern,

I won’t ask for special treatment;
Let us live by those same words.

So I'll give you this to think about,
We lose loved ones each day.

Was that your wife? Maybe your child?
I saved a life today!

About this poem

Author's Comments: "Dedicated to Judge Gael Wood (Franklin County Missouri) Judge Wood took a child from his mother because she was a lesbian and gave the child to the pedophile who had molested him. This mother won her appeal and this landmark case on 8-5-2004, but this court corruptly did not give her son back to her until after 10 years had passed.
