Analysis of My Wrapper
Kubor Dietei Gimeoin 1990 (Port Harcourt)
I have nothing in this world,
Only a polished wrapper hook around my tiny waist
That wrapper is all that is left,
It has sworn to hold on till the end of time
...I fear, I fear the fearful trill of the world
pulling it from both ends
A fearful creak is heard!
creak, creak again and again
Something is dropping from my waist;
It has gone a bit beyond my belly button
From there comes a boisterous breeze
To make me filth of the world
...my nakedness is at risk
like a stake on Betking...
When your bones are broken
like a broken bridge
All to do is watch in shiver,
Yes, watch in shiver
And wince in uncertainty...
Life, let go of my polished wrapper:
Already, my life has been a hapless hustle
What do you see in me that I do not see about my wretched self?
...time to come,
You will seek me here,
Seek me there,
...everywhere
like the Frenchies for the Scarlet Pimpernel
And I will not be in the poisoned places you'd been.

About this poem
I wrote this poem due to a fearful thought that inundated my mind. The thought that the world wants that one person who has been everything to me. The "wrapper" symbolises my younger sister, the thought of something bad happening to her propelled me to write this poem.
