Analysis of Home in the Garden

Ruth Kamasungua 1966 (Kundiawa)

These fence reflect used up match sticks of past
These trees bloomed with flowers seasons apart
These grasses carpeted the ground floor fast
These trumpets of white purely gowns, Gods art

Choko shoots take time to grow in numbers
Aibika’s are leafless for some time now
Pumpkin shoots, are too few, in mere numbers
Banana’s do take forever to grow

Roof leaking in odd places, need fixing
Walls blackening with mold and tedious time
Floor cracks, giving way to heavy weighting
Sink leak, washing walls, wetting floors, all time

The bed, console, haven, comfort, more so
Sleep sweet, dream sweet, ‘morrow brings yet hope, so

About this poem

I wrote this poem in the best way I could describe my home environment. I also have a beautiful garden in my back yard where I grow edible plants, frangipani trees and flowers. I appreciate the little troubles, trials , comfort and joy my home gives me, even though my home is not always perfect. I feel that living in it gives me hope to face every new day.
