Analysis of The Secret Place

My altar is in my heart. I carry it with me wherever I go. It is not made of wood or stone, it is not a scarf to put a candle upon. It is a spiritual place, symbolically inside the very organ that pumps the blood through my veins and through which my life continues moment to moment. My altar is of sacrifice to My God who sustains me. He is the giver of life and of joy. He picked me up when I was down, again and again, every shattered piece  of me and put me back together. He whispers to my heart...in the place of the altar, "My child, breath again. Live again. Love one more time...today, this day.... for me?"  He has healed me, he has restored me. I have seen the miraculous and I have seen such beauty in my time spent alone with him. I worship him in my heart when I am alone. I worship him in the crowd. My altar is ever before me. Please understand that I cannot bow to another altar. I am not judging you. I am simply standing. When I do not conform, when I do not bow...I am putting my self on the altar.  The part that wants to fit in, to not cause problems. The part that wants acceptance. I am in an act of worship to my God by standing back. I am saying to him, "I will worship only you. I will love you more than myself. I will love others enough to accept their rejection and misunderstanding. I worship you and you alone Lord God.
