Analysis of Utter Dismay

In the heart of the night
you took your soul and left
with the quietness
that had become your mark
for the longest time

No sound, no sigh
No farewell, no goodbye
The hull in which you dwelled
was empty and still,
as became my inner chime…

Losing you was
an exercise of accepting
the unacceptable
Like having my identity
indifferently taken away

Life has moved on
and I’ve moved along,
rejoining the daily race
Yet, with an internal daze
of dismay. Utter dismay

About this poem

A reflection on losing a dear one, with whom one very much identified: a loss that could be mentally disruptive if not mindfully addressed.
