Analysis of Epitaph For Society

Into the shadow of yester night,
One’s emotions and thoughts did take flight,
Yesterday can harm no more.
Tomorrow’s unknowns are yet in store.
Today, each one must make their way,
To pray, play and earn their pay.

Of commandments and laws, plenty we have,
Out of love and ethics is how we behave.
Those breaking societies codes and living loose,
Are allowed to exist, for them there is no noose.
What hope for caring people who try and sometimes fail,
When crooked leaders, influencers and gangsters prevail?

What future can we offer the children of tomorrow,
With life today bereft for hope and filled with sorrow?
No Pope, No Queen, No President, No Leader in any domain,
Can make things right when greed drives their ambitious gain.
Good children of tomorrow, who survive the coming carnage,
Forget the past, work together and forge a bright new age.
Amen.

About this poem

With the world on the brink of another war and conflict hot spots around the globe, pandemics and the doomsday clock ticking away just under 2 minutes to midnight, it's time to pause and take a step backwards.
