Analysis of Honesty

Erick Arvizu 1980 (Williamsburg, VA)

I can be honest
About almost anything
Ask me what I’m feeling
I may even begin to sing

I can be honest
Speaking my own truth
Without any prompting
I’ll just tell you

I can be honest
Except to myself
I can lie to the mirror
Set the truth on a shelf

I can lie about my feelings
I can lie until it hurts
Mirror me see’s through it
He sounds all of the alerts

He sometimes awakes me
Though my eyes may be open
Prompting me to be honest
So I’ll seal that door with my pen
