Analysis of Mask
Erick Arvizu 1980 (Williamsburg, VA)
His smile is frozen
Hand painted in red
Eyes transfixed and empty
For this illusion he’s bled
He walks amongst them
Feigning interest and desire
Dressed the part to a tee
Yet inside there is a fire
He wants you to believe
Grasp on to the fake reality
Think that he’s a zombie
Getting his heart off on a technicality
His life is set
Sleepwalking through the years
He may love you even now
Under his mask there may be tears
Yet he remains silent
Trapped in an endless Halloween
Hoping his love will wither
And that he’ll never be truly seen
