Analysis of WINTER STREETS 2008

In the land of lost hope
Only the broken-hearted stay,
Too beaten down by life
To even try running away.

In this land of empty promises
Dreams soon become nightmares,
And even those most strong at heart
Eventually, give in to despair.

Forgotten dreams, and lost hopes
Is all this land provides,
Till bodies without mind
Envy those who have died.

In the land of lost hope
Nothing good will come your way,
All sunshine has long gone
And the sky is forever grey.

It's a land that winners all avoid
Where only losers go,
Where horror walks the evil streets
And goodness is now unknown.

In this land of heart-aches
Strong men will openly weep,
Women and children stay indoors
As dark shadows creep.

In the land of lost hope
Where nothing can go right,
Lovers sing a mournful song
And hope to live to see daylight.

Emptiness is all there is
In this lonely, loathsome place,
A land of broken promises
Where only the lonely stay.

THE END

About this poem

This is one of a number of winter poems I wrote during 2008's 7-month long winter. Ironically it was followed by the hottest Victorian summer on record (since 1855(.
