THE LAST DAYS OF CAPTAIN QUEEG

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

The last days of Captain Queeg
How we all hate that loathsome dweeb!
Jeff says, “Even my dog loves me
“My wife -- and the Moron too.”
But everyone else hates Jeffy’s guts
It’s sad, but most surely true.

He says, “Give me another chance
“To run this state right down,
“I’ll treat Old Vic like a Big Top
“Be both Ring Leader and Chief Clown.”
Jeff says, “Let me shut down hospitals
“Schools, yes, and cop shops too,
“I’ll run around like a headless bull
“Escaped from the local zoo.”

He says, “Let me open up new casinos
“And give them all huge tax cuts,
“I’ll give away the railway system
“And kick commuters in the guts.
“I’ll get rid of all the clippies
“Replace them with a Gestapo.”
But the folks have said “Enough now!
“It’s time for old Jeffy to go!”
