Analysis of Class of 2002

Kaushik Ghosh 1979 (Calcutta)

A rainy morning, twenty years back
Some guys just out of school –
It was raining but still my friend
The morning was gay and cool.

Three teenage strangers in one room
Three cots on three walls,
They did not know how things might turn
For next four spring and fall.

The first of them is pure bookworm
Reads till he hits the bed,
The second one is the rock star
A bandana on his head.

The last of them – a lover boy –
On evening rendezvous,
The only window of the room
Gives hillside lovely view.

Morning classes and late night brawls
Mid-terms and weekly tests,
They have left their homes and loved ones
Their old friends and their pets.

Then four years passed by on a wink,
The four years passed so well –
Then came one morning one fine day
They heard the parting bell.

Life moved on and all of the class
Went through their shares of fate,
Twenty years then passed in a wink
They’re back to college gate.

The fat and balding mid aged man
Getting down from rented cab,
Was apple of eye for everyone
And had a gift of gab.

The lover boy still looks the same
Came with his second wife,
The rock star, my friend, didn’t come
He leads a different life.

The bubbly, pretty girl of class
The campus cynosure,
Has turned out to a happy house wife
Still with that smile so pure.

Some of the friends have aged twice
And some have aged half,
For some life’s been a bed of rose
For some it had been tough.

It’s like that morning twenty years back
It’s like that morning cool,
New kids flocking the college gate
Fresh and just out of school.
