This New Year Eve

Kaushik Ghosh 1979 (Calcutta)

It was snowing outside and I was feeling the chill
Evening lights were burning bright but hell-dark it was still
It was dark inside; deep dark and void inside my mind
I walked on by looking for solace – but failed to find.
Festive crowds in the street, happy faces everywhere
It was then, right then, when I found you standing out there.
Found you standing against the world on this new year eve
I decided one more time, I decided to live.

And as I found you, I found you bit broken inside
I realized I’m bit shattered too and set aside
my prejudice to walk up, through the crowd, straight to you.
You looked up. As our eyes met, it was then that I knew -
you too need that love I’m searching, as much as I do.
You need to know me girl and I want to know you too.
So I decided to live with you on new year eve
I decided one more time, I decided to live.
