To My Mother

Love grounded us when we were adrift.
It freed this captive from jail.

Our footprints through a snowdrift
Mark a tried-and-true trail.

As sands through an hourglass sift,
We ‘carry on’ without fail.

I treasure your smile and wit
Which enabled us to happily sail.

Keep blessing us with your special gift,
Fresh as a summer’s gale.

Together we forget troubles, mend any rift,
Spin a mighty ‘whale of a tale’!
