My Shedding Grief

Jennie Lynn Thrush 1983 (Grand Rapids)

I feel my tears
beneath the surface,
A tickle in the tip of my nose
eyes watering.
Can you hear me
Screaming inside my head.
Like screaming
Into a muffling pillow
My world is falling apart
Now that you're gone
a DAM bursting.
Glossy eyes
Rivers of tears.

I can feel Jennie's pain. I lost a son to cancer over 50 years ago. The hole in my heart is still there. I wish I could hug you, Jennie.

I really like the line "like screaming into a muffling pillow", it's so easily relatable yet encapsulated that feeling of hopelessness and frustration and grief at losing a loved one.
