We ran away
We eat silently
and avoid each other's gaze
While our parents carry
The conversation
We are supposed to be having
I am just happy to be here
eating with you.
Maybe the best we can do
is just share a glance
in the hallway before we're
Even awake
Knowing the questions hide
behind uncertainty and fear
All one has to do is say the word
walls will crumble
light will shine through
And we will not be fools
Yet for now we run away
from each other
afraid of the truth
