The Tongue
The Tongue
Do you recall that old saying
About sticks and stones that can break your bones
But words will never hurt?
Looking back on that now at that silly phrase
The idea just seems absurd
For there is life and death in the power of the tongue
Whether it be the elderly
Or the very young
Words said in anger or in malice you see
Can be very hurtful and cut very deeply
For the wounds of the flesh they come and go
And can heal as if they were never there
But the scars left by words
Can devastate and destroy
And cause damage beyond repair
So choose your words wisely
And speak them with love
Be it a compliment that uplifts
Or an admonishment
Just be mindful that you are the one
That always speaks the truth
But with respect and great care
That shows the world in your heart
That He resides there
