The lost Drummer boy

Forward went the Drummer boy
Under banner high
Beating tunes of glory
Neath deaths foreboding sky

Bravely marched the Drummer boy
Amongst the cries of pain
The sight and smell of blood this day
His soul would ever stain

Beneath the noise and wailing cries
Did he numbly pray
As he beat his drum in the breath of war
Would this be his final day

Through the midst of battle's rage
He bravely marched along
Beating tunes of muster
As the soldiers sung their song

He'd beat his drum defiantly
So clearly and so loud
Rolling long continuous beats
Through the wars dank darkening cloud

On and on with the beat of the drum
To victory so near
Courageously he led the men through
Fields of death and fear

As mighty cannons fiercly roared
War's fog fell all around
Till the rolling beat of his echoing drum
Was a distant fading sound

As the cloud of battle's smog gave way
To the light of victory's day
It seemed like the beat of his distant drum
He too did fade away

Somewhere back in history
On a battle fields lonely plains
Lies a young courageous Drummer boy
There his memory remains.
