The Child in the Bushes
Behind the wooded abandon,
beyond our fenced-in life,
hides a strange companion,
his words tipped in faith.
Everyday he calls out,
everyday he greets,
his wild eyes shout hello
to everyone he meets.
No one seems to notice,
no one seems to care,
strangeness is their focus,
and not the boy who lives there.
Every time I pass by,
Every time I look,
a giant smile fills my face,
his happiness I took.
One day he wasn’t there,
one day he didn’t show,
I can’t imagine the burden bore;
he’s gone, down now so low.
