The Bliss Of False Hope

With a cold sigh I caught her eye again,
but all I could do was ignore her stare;
fluttered with anticipation's soft wings.
This was not meant to be the way it was,
just a little fun to ease frustration,
of course, being the sad fool that I am,
I never looked farther than my own need,
my libido happy-slapped me and laughed.
You have heard the expression I am sure.
'Love thy neighbour.' Exactly what I did!
And now, I found myself trapped in a sphere,
round and round, a quiet kiss, a fast smile,
while my wife's casual conversation
shimmered in the air from the other room.
Hard guilt was strapping me to torture's wrack,
and of course the fear; of being found out,
screamed as my clothes were thrown into the street.

I had to end this affair but I knew
my lover would never let me go now,
she'd see me burn in hell before I walked,
there was just no way I could call it off.
The only options available were
to carry on with the cloak and dagger
lifestyle and live in the bliss of false hope,
or start annoying her so she dumped me.
But that way held its own crazy dangers,
I was just about to reply to my
wife's question of what we could do tonight
when my lover pounced and silenced me with
a passionate kiss; my breath stolen,
the world spun love then hate as we were caught.
