Jagged Regret
In solitude's company we exist,
a multitude of spirits all alone,
memories and emotional gestures
scatter the essence of bold anarchy
within confines of warm recognition,
in others we catch glimpses of ourselves
then carry on with the pretence that we,
in floods of humanity, are unique.
Terminal smiles hit high velocity
while hourglass moments extinguish love,
there's a coloured haze of jagged regret
that swallows the bottle's amber pursuit,
and pharmaceutical energy slips
towards the folds of toxic existence,
another dead step towards oblivion
is left in the pages of history.
