Steeples of Sincerity

Clara B. Ray

Daily a heart implored of God,
silent litanies steeped in sincerity,
the visible peripherals
sought
in return
thought
to be essential
as propitious tokens
indicative of
a domiciled spirituality
enclosed within.

Decades later,
days cloaked in quasipious existence,
an assayed heart learned,
if it is all that is being done--
beseeching the Ens Entium One,
may not be enough
to silence
a querulous cacophony
of an earthly father's rejection.
