Skin Deep

"Beauty is as beauty does," a long-standing cliche,
whose truth becomes apparent in behavior on display.

When there is incongruence between looks and the heart
appearance loses favor and desires soon depart.

At first you feast with your eyes and even salivate
over the presentation, like victuals on a plate.

Then voraciously indulge to sate the appetite,
discerning whether the nurture is worth another bite.

Human body shape and size with finely sculptured face
are common yardstick measures with values rather base.

Mesmerizing attraction to the opposite sex
can become superficial and often will perplex.

Throngs of ravenous people are magnetically drawn
like moths to the burning flame until romance has gone.

An ideal combination that has long-term appeal
is comeliness, cogent mind and kindness that is real.

"Good looks are only skin deep," a depth that's quite enough,
to influence decisions you later may rebuff.

Many hasty choices made in the heat of passion
later on, "in light of day," you may need to refashion.
