Situations of Love

I will forever
Be your friend,
I’ll follow you
To whatever end,
My stricken heart
You’ve helped me mend,
And now your hand
To me extends.

The old heart
That beats within me
Was young enough
To think to see
That the two of us
Would always be
Locked together
In this endless sea.

Every day I’m older
Than I was before,
Day after day I look
To what’s in store,
But now, again
There’s something more,
Again, again,
My love is sore.

Do you know?
Can you tell
That I can’t escape
What I know so well?
Would you, with me
Blindly sell
That which I can’t
Seem to yell?

And what if
I choose to say
That I have eternally
Felt this way?
Will you turn from me
And turn me away
Or perhaps set
My loving mind astray?

I refuse to make
The mistake a second time
Even if I only
Get to dream and rhyme,
I’ll wait until
The doorbells chime,
And wipe the past off,
The dirt and grime.
