Fate
Give a child a ball,
a doll, a piece of chalk,
or a plastic clock,
and they are content.
Joy radiates with them,
more radiant a gem, and no star
nor a car,
can shine any brighter.
Nothing could shatter innocence,
their resistance is strong,
but as they go along
age starts catching up.
The glow fades away,
a frown comes to stay as pieces
of the world
begin to stick on them.
There you have it:
this pit of life we fall into
where we can’t see through
our maps of destiny.
