Promises

I can't promise rainbows after cataclysmic rain.
I can't promise flowers along the country lane.
But I can promise caring when you hurt with pain.
I can promise kindness and to be humane.

I can't promise sunshine with warmth every day.
I can't promise moonlight to illuminate night's way.
But I can promise candor in every thing I say.
I can promise honor and never to betray.

I can't promise diamonds to lace around your throat.
I can't promise pontoons to keep your mood afloat.
But I can promise heartfelt fondness to devote.
I can promise ardor and affection to emote.

I can't promise castles to be your citadel.
I can't promise water forever in the well.
But I can promise fealty like a pellucid bell.
I can promise mettle riding life's carousel.

I can't promise certain pipe dreams you'll realize.
I can't promise trophies for winning every prize.
But I can promise realness without a disguise.
I can promise great love you'll find deep in my eyes.
